Sapana Holiday’s latest project is a Tharu homestay. Sapana Lodge helped start this initiative together with Riksja Travel in the Netherlands by giving the women of the Pragatishil Tharu Women Group a loan. These women from the village of Narkatiya built and furbished a new building in traditional Tharu style. The aim of this project is to help the women and their families become independent by giving them an opportunity to earn their own money. At the same time, by hosting and engaging with foreigners, the locals will learn more about the world and expand their horizons, while teaching their guests about their culture, heritage and way of life.
During the homestay, the women will try to make the guests’ stay unforgettable. The experience starts with an ox cart ride into the village after which the guests will be invited to have a cooking class with the local women. The traditional meal will then be enjoyed together after which the women will put on a cultural show with singing, music and dancing. The following day after a communal breakfast, the guests can choose from three different activities to do: fishing with the local women, henna tattooing and painting and decorating a house in traditional Tharu style

The Sapana School
The local people of Chitwan are still very poor. For 30% of them, it is not possible to send their children to school. In 2013, the construction of the Sapana School started and by now the first building is ready and we will be enrolling 20 students on April 2016. This will be a school where children will get an education according to 21st century standards.
We want to support and educate children in their growth to social, creative, self conscious, independent and well developed personalities, who will make a positive and effective contribution to society in our region and our country. We want them to be people who take responsibility for their own future, own people, fellow countrymen and global well being.
Goal of the Sapana School
At the Sapana School, children will get quality education, with scholarship. In many schools in Nepal, children are in classrooms with 85 children at once and the education system is still very old-fashioned and authoritarian. This results in poor quality education. At the Sapana School, the groups will be smalls, to be able to provide enough attention to each child and to provide them a quality education. The education will include local culture, and the necessity of hygiene and nutrition.
We want to be an example for the other schools in Chitwan.
How you can help?
To build the school and provide quality education, a lot of money is needed. So far, we have rented the land of Sapana Village Lodge and made a contract for 10 years, which will be renewed later, but we wish to have our own land in future. It is a very ambitious project and a lot more money is needed to build the school and give the local children a chance to go to school and get the education they deserve. We are looking forward to get help from the people all around the world at least to help those students who can’t pay their fees to the school and construct classrooms.
